Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant will make his return to the starting lineup tonight when the defending champions host the L.A. Clippers, according to Chris B. Haynes of ESPN.

Durant was sidelined for the past three games with a calf injury. During his absence, teammate Stephen Curry picked up a big part of Durant's scoring duties on offense while leading the Dubs to a 3-0 record.

Something that makes Durant's return special is he has a chance to reach the 20,000 career points mark tonight. Since being drafted by the Seattle SuperSonics with the second overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft, Durant has scored 19,975 points. If he scores 25 or more tonight, he would become the second youngest player ever to get 20,000 career points, behind only LeBron James.

He would also join James, Kobe Bryant, Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan as the only players in history to score 20,000 points before turning 30.

KD looks forward to the moment with humility and speaks about the exclusive group he will join soon:

“But to know — to have it in numbers, in black and white — to know that you belong in that group is pretty special to me. I'm telling you, man, it's never been a goal of mine to count how many points I have. That's not why I play the game. To be under 30 and do it, that's special to me too. You play in this league for so long, and having an opportunity to do something like this at this age, you just can't take it for granted, because there's not too many players on that list.”

This season, the reigning Finals MVP is averaging 25.9 points with 50.1 percent shooting from the field and 39.0 percent from behind the 3-point line. Despite this being his first game in a week, Durant should not struggle to hit the 25-point mark tonight, and his teammates will probably try feeding him the ball constantly now that they know how close he is to getting this new milestone.
