At the inaugural NBA awards show last year, Klay Thompson was recognized with the 2016-17 NBA Performance of the Year for his 60-point outburst against the Indiana Pacers. Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Draymond Green, and the rest of the Warriors were mere spectators as the second-generation marksman torched their opponents for three quarters.

Yes, he only needed 29 minutes to have the game decided that early. Furthermore, Thompson already had 40 points at the end of the first half. It gets better, though, the All-Star guard only took 11 dribbles and the ball was in his hands for a total of 90 seconds.

Almost a season after, more mind-blowing details emerge relating to that historic performance. In an appearance for the Bill Simmons' Podcast, Kevin Durant revealed what Thompson was up to prior to his epic explosion.

Well, to be more accurate, Thompson didn't get up at all, as transcribed by Uproxx:

Oh, so like the (day) before he had 60, Klay just missed practice. He didn’t come,” Durant said. “He just … nobody like, you know when practice starts, it was like, ‘Where the hell is Klay?’ We called him, called him, called him. He didn’t come to practice. He just like, just didn’t come. And the next night he had 60.”

“You still don’t know what happened?!” Simmons asked.

“Don’t know what happened,” Durant said. “I think he said, like, ‘Man, I was an hour late, two hours late. I was like, I might as well just stay in bed.’ And he came out and had 60. I was like, this guy, if everybody in the world was like Klay the universe would be better.”

Don't be surprised if Thompson makes an appearance at a conference where he conducts a talk about the importance of dozing off. Unfortunately, Thompson's trick came years late for Chris Kaman to properly apply.
