Kelly Oubre Jr. does not want to come off the bench if he decides to remain with the Golden State Warriors next season. Bob Myers respects that wish.

Myers reacted Friday afternoon to the 25-year-old's comments about having more to offer than being a bench player. The Warriors general manager said he was fine with what Oubre said, endorsing the idea Oubre should have a starter's mindset going forward:

“I liked what he said last night,” Myers said, via Drew Shiller of NBC Sports Bay Area. “He should want to start. Even Iguodala, I think he probably liked it when Kerr said, ‘Hey, I'm gonna start you in the Finals.' “

It's not as if Oubre has been coming off the bench this season. He has started in all 43 of his appearances with Golden State. But he could well have to accept a bench role should he re-sign with the Dubs this summer.

That's because Klay Thompson will be returning from his Achilles injury suffered last fall. Thompson obviously figures to resume his duties as the starting 2-guard, with Andrew Wiggins likely to play small forward.

Of course, there is no telling whether Myers will even try to re-sign Oubre this summer.

The Warriors reportedly shopped Oubre ahead of Thursday's trade deadline, though he ultimately remained in the Bay Area. However, Golden State might not be willing to open up the checkbook depending on Oubre's market in free agency.

In any event, Myers appears to respect Oubre's hunger and determination to be a starter, for whomever he plays for next.
