Through the last couple of months, the Golden State Warriors have struggled to play at a consistent level on both ends of the court. This has led to them attempting a few different methods to help keep the team motivated through the rest of the second half of the year.

One of these changes was the move to take out Zaza Pachulia from the starting lineup and put JaVale McGee in his place. According to Connor Letourneau of The San Francisco Chronicles, it was something that Pachulia voiced that he understood the situation but only is concerned about what he can control on the floor.

Pachulia is in his second season with the Warriors, playing a diminished starting role averaging just 5.8 points on 60.5 percent shooting from the field with 4.8 rebounds in 14.7 minutes per contests. However, he has drawn the start in the first 48 games that he has played this season and has come off the bench for the last two.

This isn't a change that is solely on the result of Pachulia's play but rather to jump-start the team back into the right direction as the Warriors have won their last two games. The insertion of McGee was made more to provide another element to that unit as he brings to the table more athleticism and bigger defensive presence as a rim protector. He has also remained in a limited role in his first two starts, averaging 4.0 points and 5.0 rebounds in 12.0 minutes per contest.

Golden State isn't set in stone with this unit going with Pachulia coming off the bench as that could always change if head coach Steve Kerr believes it's best for the team that he be put back into the starting lineup. Kerr has shown a willingness in the past to do whatever he believes will most benefit their performance on the court. For the time being, Golden State is rolling with this lineup alteration until needed otherwise.
