The Golden State Warriors have recently been listed as a team that could make a run at Victor Oladipo ahead of the NBA trade deadline. Despite the reported interest, the San Francisco Chronicle's Connor Letourneau shared why it's unlikely that the Warriors land Oladipo.

“Without an assurance that the Warriors — owners of the biggest payroll in NBA history — could afford to re-sign Oladipo, they’d take a significant gamble by going after him. Golden State general manager Bob Myers needs to ask himself: Would giving up a realistic package such as guard Kelly Oubre Jr. and center Kevon Looney be worth a few months of Oladipo?”

The absence of Klay Thompson for the second consecutive season has left a massive void on offense for the Warriors. Before the 2020-21 season, Golden State acquired Kelly Oubre Jr. in hopes he could help replace the production of Thompson.

Oubre started the season slowly, but the Kansas product has picked up his play on the court in recent weeks. Therefore, there is a chance that Oubre could be involved in a trade for Oladipo, giving the Warriors another ball-handler alongside Stephen Curry.

But as Letourneau points out, Oladipo is set to become a free agent at the end of the current season. Provided that, it would be a risky move for the Warriors to make a move for Oladipo when he could be a rental for the rest of the season.

At the same time, while Oubre would make the most sense in an Oladipo trade, he could possibly get them someone that could be a long-term fixture on the roster. Or, with Oubre proving to be a valuable member, Golden State could view him as a key contributor moving forward and keep him moving forward.

There seems to be a popular opinion that Oladipo is extremely intrigued with the idea of signing with the Miami Heat in the upcoming offseason. While Oladipo's future with the Houston Rockets is in doubt, and the Warriors are a notable suitor, the chances of Golden State pushing for a trade involving Oladipo seems doubtful.
