The crazy Friday night matchup between the Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves was mired by a series of controversial sequences building up to the crescendo that is a foul call on Kevin Durant, ultimately deciding the game.

With 0.5 seconds left on the clock, Durant was whistled for a holding foul on Timberwolves superstar Karl Anthony-Towns as he tried to receive an inbound pass that appeared to have no chance on connecting with the 7-footer in any way.

Bay Area announcers (and most viewers) denounced the call as anti-climactic, arguing that players should decide the game and not through the charity stripe on a ticky-tack call – particularly on a pass that seemed to be way off target. However, the local commentators on the above-mentioned clip, correctly pointed out that it was a clear foul (regardless of the ball nearly impossible to catch) and the refs were merely calling what they saw.

Perhaps what made the call egregious was an earlier possession when Durant's game-tying three-pointer was ruled off after refs stopped the play citing that rookie guard Keita Bates-Diop fouled him on the catch. What could have been a four-point play and potentially the ball game was snatched off the Warriors' clutch hands.

It was all moot though, as Stephen Curry hit a difficult stepback while being pestered in the corner and tying the game again, setting up the questionable finish.

The loss left the Warriors on a virtual deadlock with the Denver Nuggets at 51-24 a piece.
