Now that he's made his comeback from that brutal leg injury suffered in 2018, some believe Washington Football Team quarterback Alex Smith should retire from the NFL after this season since he's backing up Kyle Allen.

Smith, who is signed through 2022 with $40 million left on his contract, says he'll think about his NFL future in the offseason.

“Those are conversations for an offseason,” Alex Smith said, via NBC Sports Washington’s J.P. Finlay.

“For me, I love lacing up my cleats every single day. I love throwing the helmet on every single day. I’m having an amazing time. There’s a long time I didn’t think this was ever going to be remotely possible. I love going out there and competing and so for me [it’s] about moving forward and getting better and getting ready to beat the Giants.

“I know you don’t want to hear that but certainly, there’s so much time in the offseason to obviously reflect and make those kinds of decisions and you leave that for that kind of time.”

In Week 5 against the Los Angeles Rams, Smith came in for Allen and went 9-of-17 for 37 yards. He was sacked six times but fortunately came out of the game uninjured.

Since the game of football is so dangerous and Smith suffered a life-threatening injury, it's going to be interesting to see what the former No. 1 overall pick decides to do once the 2020 season ends.

The 36-year-old may be best served to retire and spend time with his family after playing in the NFL since 2005.
