The Washington Football Team was forced to insert Dwayne Haskins under center after Alex Smith got injured on Sunday. Despite Washington emerging victorious over the San Francisco 49ers, Ron Rivera wasn't content with how the offense performed around Haskins.

“When a player steps in for a player, the guy that steps in should not have to feel like he has to carry the weight of everybody. What should happen is the players around him have to continue to step up and play their game. Thats what’s important,” the coach said, via JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington.

Haskins wasn't asked to do much on Sunday due to the stellar play of the defense. The second-year quarterback would finish the game completing seven of his 12 attempts for only 51 yards.

However, Rivera pointed out that a crucial drop while Haskins was operating the offense didn't help the offense.

“He went out and did his job, threw some really good balls early on,” Rivera said. “What's disappointing is we had a big drop that would have converted it and turned it into a first down and we could have kept the drive alive.”

Smith would suffer a leg injury in Washington's win, making him questionable for next week's game versus the Seattle Seahawks. If Haskins is asked to step in as the starter in Week 15, Rivera doesn't want him to have to shoulder the load of the entire offense.

“We put Dwayne in a couple of tough spots later on. We weren’t as efficient early in the downs. We put a lot of pressure on him to make plays,” Rivera said. “We as a football team have to understand the circumstances.”

The Washington Football Team has now won four games in a row, positioning themselves in first place in the NFC East. Regardless of who is at quarterback against the Seahawks, Rivera wants to see more from the skill-position players on offense.
