Washington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera attempted a gutsy play in crunch time against the New York Giants to try to go for the 21-20 victory instead of the extra point to tie the game at 20 and send the game to overtime.

Instead, quarterback Kyle Allen found himself on a no man's land and had his pass under pressure fall incomplete. The gamble eventually backfired which caused Rivera's team to succumb on a tightly-contested 20-19 loss.

He responded to his late-game decision and aimed to live with the outcome instead:

“The only way to learn to win is to play to win,” Rivera said.

Scoreless outings in the first and third quarters of the game proved to be the difference in the loss for Washington. The team leaned on their playmaker in Allen who started under center and chalked up 280 passing yards on 31-of-42 conversions and two passing touchdowns.

Sophomore wideout Terry McLaurin tallied 74 receiving yards on seven receptions while tight end Logan Thomas found himself on the end zone for a touchdown score along with 42 yards on three touches.

Wide receiver Cam Sims made the most out of his opportunities and scored a touchdown on his lone reception which generated 22 receiving yards.

On the other side of the field, Giants rookie linebacker Tae Crowder, who was the last player taken in the 2020 NFL Draft, picked up a fumble and ran 43 yards for a touchdown score with three minutes left to play in the fourth quarter. The play gave the 20-19 lead for Big Blue which eventually sealed their first win of the season.

With a 1-5 record, Washington now finds themselves on a deep hole and hopes to get back on the win column in their next encounter against division rival Dallas Cowboys on Week 7 proceedings.
