Wisconsin Badgers star Johnny Davis was forced to exit Sunday's game against the Nebraska Cornhuskers after he was fouled hard early in the second half of the contest.

After blocking Alonzo Verge Jr. and gaining possession of the ball himself, Davis quickly ran to the other end with all intent on attacking the rim. While he stumbled a bit on his way to the basket, he was still able to hoist up a lay-up. Unfortunately, as he sent up the shot, Trey McGowens rammed at him and hit the Badgers guard in the face and sent him falling down, via ESPN.

Davis exited after the flagrant foul and did not return. The team said he's dealing with a lower-body injury, but no further details were provided as to the extent and severity of the issue.

For what it's worth, though, Wisconsin head coach Greg Gard shared optimism that his guard will be fine despite the scary hit.

“I'm optimistic that he's going to be fine,” Gard said before hinting that he'll take a look at the foul before coming up with more appropriate measures, per ESPN.

“The officials knew my thoughts, and knew them actually before it happened on some other things that I saw. I'll leave it at that and I'll watch the replay and I'll make the necessary phone calls.”

Johnny Davis played just 12 minutes for Wisconsin, scoring 10 points before he exited the contest. Trey McGowens was ejected for his flagrant foul, but Davis' absence proved to be a major problem for the Badgers as they fell to the Cornhuskers 74-73.

The 20-year-old Davis is the Badgers' leading scorer. He's averaging 20.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per game prior to Sunday, so it's not a surprise why his exit was a brutal blow to Wisconsin.

Hopefully, though, Davis indeed returns sooner rather than later. Hopes are high he'll be able to play next week when the team returns to Big Ten action.
