Despite holding the worst record in the NBA and possessing few means to improve their roster in the short term, the Washington Wizards have no desire to trade Bradley Beal. At least according to head coach Scott Brooks.

Speaking with reporters following the team's practice Saturday afternoon, Brooks pushed back hard against the rumors that a trade involving the guard was imminent, pia Chase Hughes of NBC Sports.

“We're not interested” Brooks said.  “I think I might tell Tommy [Sheppard] to block all the 29 other GM's numbers. We're not answering.”

The obvious disclaimer attached to the coach's comments is that Brooks himself may soon be departing Washington due to his lackluster record with the team. Since joining the franchise during the 2016-17 season, the head coach has a winning percentage of only .456 and has failed to lead the team to the postseason since 2018. To make matters worse, the Wizards have started the season 3-12 despite their expectations entering the year that they would contend for a trip to the playoffs.

With the situation in Washington quickly deteriorating, speculation has grown that the team would trade Beal, as the guard has been showing visible signs of frustration during games. Though he has yet to formally demand a trade from the franchise, many observers believe such a move could come quickly, with multiple potential suitors lining up to engage in any trade discussions.

Beal has continued to play incredibly well despite the rumors, leading the NBA in scoring at 34.7 points per game and shooting nearly 48% from the floor. Unfortunately for him and the Wizards, unless those points start translating into more victories, the trade speculation will continue.
