Jeff Green wants to re-sign with the Washington Wizards this summer in free agency despite the team missing the playoffs in 2018-19.

Green signed a one-year deal with the Wizards last offseason worth $2.39 million. The veteran small forward grew up in Maryland and played his college basketball at Georgetown University.

Being close to family and in a city he's familiar with are two things Green enjoyed.

“I would love to come back,” Green said, via Chase Hughes of NBC Sports. “Great set of guys on this team. I loved playing with Brad [Beal], John [Wall]. Being in front of family every night was great for me. It allowed me to see my daughters more than a couple of times a year, which was great.

“Being in a familiar setting from my Georgetown days was great. Being able to go up to Georgetown and watch the guys get better, it was great. [Those are] things I haven’t been able to do since being in the league.”

Green averaged 12.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game for the Wizards in 2018-19. The 32-year-old swingman shot 47.7 percent from the field, 35.6 percent from beyond the arc and 89.4 percent from the free-throw line.

The Wizards will have a new general manager in 2019-20. Washington fired Ernie Grunfeld.

Green began his NBA career with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Since then, he has played for the Boston Celtics, Memphis Grizzlies, Los Angeles Clippers, Orlando Magic, Cleveland Cavaliers and Wizards.
