Yasiel Puig is in hot water right now following reports of sexual assault charges being filed against the 30-year-old former outfielder. Puig has now come out with his own statement to address his current situation.

Puig took to Twitter to release an official press release with the help of his own legal team:

An excerpt from the lengthy statement affirms how Puig is claiming complete innocence in this matter as he denies any and all sexual allegation charges filed against him:

“I am speaking out now to defend my name against false and malicious allegations by a woman who claims I assaulted her in 2018,” Puig said in a statement (h/t Ryan Young of Yahoo Sports). “Let me be clear and set the record straight once and for all: These allegations are totally false, the evidence proves they are false, and I look forward to all the facts and the truth coming out.”

Puig has come out firing here as he declares the allegations to be “totally false.” It appears that he is well-equipped to face the charges in court.

The incident allegedly took place back in 2018 during a Los Angeles Lakers game. The accuser, identified as Jane Roe, alleges that Puig sexually assaulted her inside a bathroom. In his statement, Puig denies these claims, saying that the woman “propositioned” her for sex. Puig does not deny the fact that he engaged in intercourse with Roe, but he is claiming that it was “consensual.”

Yasiel Puig has not played in the MLB since 2018. He was supposed to suit up for the Atlanta Braves last season, but his deal was eventually canceled after he tested positive for COVID-19.
