While the rest of 2024 looks to be a relatively quiet year for Hugh Jackman on screen, his one outing looks poised to hit in a big way as he picks up the adamantium claws again for Deadpool and Wolverine. The film may not hit theaters until July, but Jackman doesn't look to be wasting time finding his next project, either, that will take him from the comic book pages all the way to Sherwood Forest's legendary outlaw.

It was confirmed on Friday that Hugh Jackman will be taking on the famous role of Robin Hood for the film The Death of Robin Hood, according to Deadline.

The Death of Robin Hood is described as a darker take on the outlaw's story and will center on an older Robin Hood “rappling with his past after a life of crime and murder.” After finding himself “gravely injured,” he is tended to by a “mysterious woman who offers him a chance at salvation.”

Jodie Comer was also confirmed to be co-starring with Jackman in the film, possibly as the “mysterious woman” mentioned in the synopsis.

The Death of Robin Hood is the latest from writer-director Michael Sarnoski, who made his feature film directorial debut with 2021's critically acclaimed Pig, starring Nicolas Cage. Sarnoski spent the previous decade working on predominantly short films and television as he developed Pig.

Sarnoski's next feature is A Quiet Place: Day One, which is scheduled to hit theaters on June 28, 2024.

The Day the Earth went Silent

The third overall film in the series, Day One is a prequel set during the first days of the invasion by the bloodthirsty aliens that hunt using ultrasonic hearing. Lupita Nyong'o stars as Sam, a New York City resident who must navigate New York City as the invasion begins to engulf the city and entire world.

Joseph Quinn stars alongside Nyong'o as Eric, another survivor of the initial invasion, and Djimon Hounsou, who previously appeared in A Quiet Place Part 2 as an unnamed survivor whose name is confirmed to be Henri in the prequel.

“It has been an incredible opportunity to reinvent and freshly innovate the story we all know of Robin Hood,” Sarnoski told Deadline. “Securing the perfect cast to transform the script to screen was essential. I could not be more thrilled and trusting in Hugh and Jodie to bring this story to life in a powerful and meaningful way.”

The Death of Robin Hood will be up for sale at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, where it is expected to be one of the hottest projects available for studios to pick up. The planned starting window for production is February 2025, though this could always changes depending on what studio picks up the film or due to any scheduling issues for Sarnoski, Jackman, or Comer.
