It's going to be a long road for the Houston Texans before they get back into a competitive atmosphere. Even so, the front office has done a decent job in creating a foundation to build upon. The team is full of young prospects and the cap space is clearing up with Deshaun Watson out of the picture. However, we take a look at one undrafted free agent who will make the Texans' 2022 roster.

Houston signed a total of 11 undrafted free agents after the NFL Draft. It's a long shot for any of these players to make the team. However, considering the state of the Texans' roster, these rookies will have a fighting chance to earn a role with the franchise. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out, but all eyes will be on this organization throughout training camp.

One area of the field to pay attention to is the secondary. The front office acquired two studs in the draft after selecting Derek Stingley Jr. and Jalen Pitre. However, with the remainder of the secondary up in the air, an undrafted free agent could win a role with the final roster. This would give the Texans an incredibly young secondary for the upcoming season.

With that said, here is our one Texans undrafted free agent to make the 2022 roster.

Texans Undrafted Free Agent To Make 2022 Roster

Jacobi Francis

There are 13 total cornerbacks on the current roster as training camp approaches. However, not many of those starting spots are a lock for the 2022 season. That leaves Jacobi Francis an opportunity to earn a legitimate role for the Texans after going undrafted this year.

Francis played for the Memphis Tigers throughout his collegiate career. The redshirt senior played a vital role in Memphis as one of their starting cornerbacks. After five years with the Tigers, Jacobi Francis ended up with 130 total tackles, six interceptions, and 29 pass deflections. He played rather well, making him a great acquisition for the Texans as the team enters training camp.

It'll be fun to watch this position battle play out. Only a select few cornerbacks are likely guaranteed to make the Texans' final roster. For Jacobi Francis, the best-case scenario is to play a depth role in the secondary. If he proves to be a surprise gem as an undrafted free agent, then Houston will have an improved group of cornerbacks for the upcoming season.

Even so, it's more likely Francis fights for a spot on special teams. If he performs well throughout training camp, Jacobi Francis could become the fifth cornerback on the depth chart, guaranteeing him a role on the special teams unit. This is the most likely outcome for this prospect to make the Texans' 2022 roster.

We'll see how it all plays out for Jacobi Francis. He has an uphill battle to make the Texans 2022 roster as an undrafted free agent. However, it's not outside of the realm, as Houston doesn't have a great team, to begin with. Keep an eye on this kid as he could become a surprise name during the summer. If he wows the coaching staff enough, we should be seeing Francis on the field sporadically throughout the upcoming season.
