The Denver Broncos look to be a much better team than perceived. Their roster is stacked throughout, but the current quarterback battle makes many ponder just how good this team will be. Even so, the Broncos participate in a tough AFC West division and should be competitive throughout the year. Look for the Broncos to be in most games, as they have the offensive weapons and sturdy defense to compete with anyone.

Denver made some noise in the NFL Draft this year. After opting to not select a quarterback, the front office made a big splash by taking Patrick Surtain. He's a cornerback with a ton of potential and should make an immediate impact on the defense. The defense is Denver's strength this season, and Patrick Surtain should play a major role. For that reason, we could see him take a starting job away from someone else.

The offense looks solid as well, especially after the front office took a rookie running back in the second round. Javonte Williams has the tools to be a monster in the NFL, giving Denver another reliable running back. For that reason, the Broncos could have a solid one-two punch in the backfield this year. With that said, here are two Broncos starters in danger of losing their starting jobs.

Broncos Starters

Ronald Darby

Ronald Darby has been a consistent cornerback throughout his career. He played all 16 games last season and served as a viable cornerback for the Washington Football Team. He signed a deal with the Denver Broncos this offseason and will likely play a vital role in the defense. He's a sound tackler for a cornerback, which is something that could help him retain his starting job.

However, with how great Patrick Surtain has looked so far, it's going to be tough for Darby to hold onto the starting role. The Broncos' unofficial depth chart has Darby as the starter right now. However, Denver used their first overall selection to take Surtain and the kid has been balling out in training camp. If Surtain continues to perform well throughout the preseason, he should be able to take the starting job and push Darby to a backup role. Darby will likely still receive plenty of playing time, as his number will be called upon in Nickel packages.

Melvin Gordon III

Melvin Gordon III is another Broncos player who has been consistent throughout his career. However, he has entered the back half of his career and the Broncos selected Javonte Williams in the second round of the draft. Williams has looked awesome throughout training camp and sparked some interest from NFL fans in Denver's preseason opener.

Even so, Gordon should be heavily involved in the Broncos' offense this year. He's a reliable running back who still has plenty left in the tank, but if Williams continues to dominate in training camp and the preseason, he could usurp the starting spot from Gordon. Keep an eye on the Broncos backfield, as there is some solid competition going on right now. Running back might be the strongest position in Denver, as even Mike Boone has looked phenomenal this offseason as well.
