The Pittsburgh Steelers have their work cut out for them this year, as the AFC North is possibly the toughest division in football. Pittsburgh will have to be at their best throughout the season, as any struggles could prevent this team from making the postseason.

The front office has been relatively busy this offseason, making a ton of moves to improve the roster. Drafting Najee Harris was the biggest acquisition for this franchise. They finished dead last in rushing a season ago, and Harris can be a superstar running back. The defense also made a few changes, but they should still be elite, which will keep this team competitive throughout the year.

Pittsburgh always seems to be near the top of the pecking order of the NFL. The reason being, they're able to replace veterans with talented prospects at a consistent rate. That shouldn't change this year, as two prospects have a chance to make an impact in 2021. With that said, here are two underrated sleepers on the Steelers roster.

Pat Freiermuth

Coming out of Penn State, Pat Freiermuth is a big tight end with a ton of potential. Kyle Pitts made many forget about the other tight ends in the 2021 NFL Draft class, but Freiermuth has a ton of potential. He finished his collegiate career with 92 receptions, 1,185 yards, and 16 touchdowns.

He'll likely serve as the backup tight end to start his career, as Eric Ebron looks to be the starter. Ebron isn't the worst tight end in the league, but he's certainly not the best either. It'll benefit Freiermuth to work as a blocking tight end in his rookie season, but he's incredibly talented in the passing game. So much so, it'd be a mistake if the Steelers didn't get him involved.

It typically takes a few years for tight ends to adjust in the NFL, but the position is evolving before our very eyes. With superstars like Travis Kelce, Darren Waller, and George Kittle, every team is searching for the next breakout star. The Steelers might very well have one in Freiermuth, as he could become a major contributor in 2021.

Alex Highsmith

The defense lost Bud Dupree in free agency after he signed with the Tennessee Titans. Dupree is an elite pass rusher and helped the Steelers for years. Now that he's gone, the defense will need someone else to fill those shoes. Alex Highsmith was a rookie in 2020 and enters his second season as the potential starter for Pittsburgh.

He had to fill in last year and started five games after Dupree fell to injury. Highsmith had a decent showing in his small sample size, racking up 48 total tackles, two sacks, and one interception. Pittsburgh hopes Highsmith can improve off his 2020 outing, as he can help the Steelers defense remain elite.

Luckily for them, TJ Watt is on the roster playing on the other side of the defensive line. His prowess as a pass rusher gives the Steelers an edge, forcing opposing offensive lines to focus on him. For that reason, Highsmith could find himself in more one-on-one situations, giving him the chance to earn more sacks and tackles for a loss. Keep an eye on Highsmith, as he could be in for a monster year.
