It has been a really frustrating season for Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian arrived in a monster deal this summer, as Chelsea paid €110 million for the forward. Unfortunately for the Blues and for Lukaku, it has not gone well, as he only scored five goals in the Premier League and 12 in all competitions. As Chelsea is now facing possible issues with their owner, Roman Abramovich, they might look to sell Lukaku in the summer. Thus, we can look at the three best destinations for Chelsea outcast Romelu Lukaku.

Best destinations for Romelu Lukaku

PSG

One team set to lose their star striker in the summer is PSG. Of course, they have their front three for this season in Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, and Lionel Messi, but Mbappe looks set to join Real Madrid this summer. Thus, PSG will be on the lookout for a striker and according to Football Insider, they're already showing interest in Romelu Lukaku. There are tons of reasons why PSG should be the team Lukaku goes for, but the biggest one is probably money. Other teams with the funds available, aside from Newcastle, to fund a transfer and also pay his wages simply do not need a striker, or they are looking in another direction. PSG, as they will see off Mbappe and do not seem interested in Erling Haaland, might be the choice.

Additionally, Lukaku has been more prolific in a league outside of England. Of course, he spent most of his career in the Premier League, other than a four-year spell in his boyhood club Anderlecht in Belgium and two seasons in Inter Milan, but his best football came exactly in Italy. Lukaku bagged 64 goals in 95 appearances for the Italian giants, leading them to break the Juventus domination and win their first title since 2010. While Italy and France cannot be compared in many regards, it is clear that Romelu Lukaku plays better as time goes on outside of England, therefore PSG might be the best possible way to go.

Newcastle

Staying in England means going to either Manchester City or Newcastle at this point. Of course, Manchester United also has money to fund a Lukaku transfer, but there is no doubt that after his two-year spell at Old Trafford, Lukaku is not really the Red Devils' faithful's favorite player. As Manchester City will likely hold their cash for Haaland, Newcastle seems like a good option, if Romelu Lukaku wants to stay in the UK. They have been taken over by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia and already spent €100 million on four players in the winter transfer window. Newcastle has deep pockets and they badly need reinforcements in their squad.

Now, as most of their young talent is accumulated in the attack, they might look to bolster their defense. That would be the sensical thing to do, but these kinds of owners with unlimited funds available do not always make a ton of sense, so they might look to buy any big-name player that is available. As there will be a shortage of those huge names that are available, as Mbappe is going to Real Madrid and Haaland is clearly choosing between Madrid and Manchester City, Newcastle might splash the cash on Lukaku and just bring him over to Tyneside. It would not be the best move, football-wise, but it would be a huge move to represent the desire to win and dedication to improving the team to the fans, and that would likely do great for the new owners of Newcastle.

Borussia Dortmund

In a surprise move, we can definitely see Romelu Lukaku going to Germany and playing for BVB. Now, it would not yield a ton of money for Chelsea, but as the circumstances of their issues are fairly public, they will be low-balled by everyone sending offers for their players. Thus, with how they manage their funds, Dortmund likely has some money available and could look to replace Haaland, who is obviously out, with Lukaku. It would definitely not be the first time where they basically revive a player, but it could also be an opportunity for Lukaku to play in a league that might suit him well, in a position that suits him well.

Romelu Lukaku is a target man, who is bulky, tall, and can score with his head, but he is also a good facilitator, which is a part of his game that ends up undervalued. He participates in his team's efforts to attack by making passes and switching up play. He also soaks a ton of pressure, which could be good for Dortmund's wingers. While in regards to pure speed he is nowhere near as rapid as Haaland, his link-up play potential and possibilities to build upon that to replace the Norwegian might be reason enough for BVB to break the bank and get the Belgian to Germany this summer.
