It's been a questionable offseason for the New England Patriots. The front office didn't acquire many exciting names and their draft class isn't too great on paper. However, you can never count out this franchise with Bill Belichick leading the way. Even so, it'd be nice to see this team acquire more dominant pass catchers to help Mac Jones' development. For that reason, we look at three potential trade targets to help the Patriots round out their 2022 roster.

Although New England traded for DeVante Parker, the wide receiver group is rather mediocre. Jakobi Meyers looks like the most consistent option outside of Hunter Henry, which isn't an ideal situation for the Patriots. If they can bring in a receiver with a history of producing, then this offense will become much more competitive for the upcoming season.

Getting a deal finalized isn't impossible, but it will be difficult to follow through. It's more likely the Patriots sign some free agents instead. Regardless, it is time for New England to give Mac Jones a legitimate weapon to truly open up the offense. If the front office can acquire one of these wide receivers, this team will put up a fight in the AFC East.

With that said, here are three potential trade targets for the Patriots to complete their 2022 roster.

Patriots Trade Targets To Complete 2022 Roster

3. Brandin Cooks

With the Houston Texans rebuilding, they should be fielding numerous offers for Brandin Cooks. New England could use Cooks, as he's one of the most consistent pass options in the league. Additionally, he just signed a long-term contract, so the Patriots wouldn't have to worry about re-signing him immediately. Trading for Cooks would be a smart decision for the Patriots, as they'd finally have a number one option in the passing game.

Cooks has surpassed 1,000 receiving yards in six of his eight seasons in the NFL. In 2021, he proved to be a legitimate weapon despite Houston being a bad team. He recorded 90 receptions, 1,037 receiving yards, and six touchdowns, which is a statline the Patriots would love to have. Keep an eye on Brandin Cooks as he could become a hot trade target for multiple teams in the league.

2. DK Metcalf

This would be an incredibly difficult trade to pull off, but the Patriots can find a way to get it done. Similar to the Texans, the Seattle Seahawks are in a rebuild, despite the fact Pete Carroll says otherwise. DK Metcalf is looking to receive a new contract and might be out of Seattle soon. It is more likely Metcalf remains with his former team for the long haul, but New England should be inquiring about him anyway.

Especially considering Metcalf has a massive downgrade at quarterback after Seattle traded Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos, he might be wanting out as well. Between the uncertainty of the Seahawks' future and Metcalf's contract, now is the time for the Patriots to swoop in and potentially acquire a superstar caliber receiver.

1. Terry McLaurin

This is another sticky situation where New England could benefit. Rumors are that Terry McLaurin is going to hold out until he's given an extension. The Washington Commanders are likely to pay him. However, based on the multiple star receivers to be traded this offseason, it's not a guarantee. The Patriots should be on the phones inquiring about McLaurin right now.

It'll be interesting to see how the Commanders approach their star receiver. He's the face of the offense and trading him away would hurt their chances of making the playoffs in 2022. However, it's not like Washington is a true Super Bowl contender, and acquiring draft picks makes sense for this franchise. For that reason, the Patriots should be sending offers for Terry McLaurin.
