The Philadelphia Eagles had a dominant win over the Detroit Lions, recording a 44-6 victory. It was a critical game for the Eagles to win since they are trying to make a push for the playoffs. Games against bad teams are must-wins for squads fighting for a playoffs spot, and this success could very well spark that postseason push.

Philly dominated in all facets of the game against Detroit, resulting in the blowout win. With that said, here are three takeaways from the Eagles' Week 8 demolition of the poor Lions.

Philadelphia Eagles Week 8 Takeaways vs. Detroit Lions

3. The Eagles could sneak into the playoffs

The Eagles have been an under-the-radar team since they currently sit at 3-5. They have a young roster that has some players emerging into great players. Jalen Hurts has had a good second campaign thus far, as well as rookie wide receiver Devonta Smith.

Smith was drafted by the Eagles with the sixth pick to be reunited with his college teammate Hurts. They have had a good connection this season, as Smith has 33 receptions for 421 yards and a touchdown .

With the Eagle' young players bursting onto the scene, they could sneak into the playoffs.

2. The defense is improving

Throughout the season, the Eagles' defense has been very inconsistent. However, this week, the defense locked down the Lions and appeared to have found their rhythm.

Philly put pressure on Detroit all game to finish with six sacks. The Eagles also forced a fumble, which was recovered by Darius Slay who returned it for a touchdown.

While the defense won't have an elite performance like this every week, they have shown improvement. They have the talent to make it to the playoffs with this defense, and they are putting it together at a perfect time.

1. Jalen Hurts is the franchise quarterback

When Hurts was drafted, many questioned why since the Eagles already had Carson Wentz.

Of course Wentz was traded in the offseason to the Indianapolis Colts, making Hurts the starter. After Hurts earned the starting job, many people began to question if he could be the franchise quarterback.

Hurts is a dual-threat quarterback that can be inconsistent at times. On the season, Hurts has thrown for 1,716 yards along with 10 touchdowns and only four interceptions. He has also had a significant impact in the rushing attack as he has rushed for 361 yards and five touchdowns. His numbers weren't elite against the Lions, but he didn't turn the ball over and set up the rushing attack for his teammates.

While he has plenty of detractors, Hurts has shown that he can be the savior Philly needs. Now, the Eagles need to focus on building more around him.

The Eagles now look to their next opponent: the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chargers sit at 4-3 on the season and are coming off of a loss to the New England Patriots. This will be a big test for the team as they are playing another team with playoff aspirations. LA QB Justin Herbert has had a phenomenal season and will be a formidable player for Philly's defense to stop.
