Green Bay Packers star Davante Adams has long been considered one of the better wide receivers in the NFL. Last season, he took the next step. He truly put himself in the “elite” category at the position.

In 2018, Adams reeled in 111 receptions (sixth in the NFL) for 1,386 yards (seventh) and 13 touchdowns (second).

Simply put, he was elite in basically every offensive passing category. If you want to dig further, he was fourth among receivers in yards after catch (498) and 10th in first downs (64).

There wasn't a category Adams didn't dominate.

What does this mean for next season? Here are three goals for Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams in 2019.

Lead the NFL in Touchdown Receptions

There's a pretty glaring similarity among 2016, 2017 and 2018 for Davante Adams. The Green Bay Packers' wide receiver has finished second in the NFL in touchdown receptions in all three of those years.

Finishing second in that category three years in a row has to be frustrating. Even if he isn't thinking about it, he's aware of it.

Adams finished three touchdowns behind the leader once, and two touchdowns behind the leader twice. In 2016, the only player ahead of him was his own teammate, Jordy Nelson. That has to sting at least a little bit.

It's easy to imagine it's a goal for Adams to top the list in 2019. He definitely has the talent — and the quarterback — to do so.

Set at Least One New Career High

Last season, Davante Adams set career-high marks in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. His 13 touchdowns were just one ahead of his previous high. However, his 111 receptions and 1,386 receiving yards obliterated his old marks.

It's a tall task to ask him to improve in all three categories again, especially when considering the marks he set last season are extremely lofty. However, if Adams wants to continue “trending up” he'll want to set a new career best in at least one of those categories.

If Adams can do that, the 26-year-old could still be considered as someone who is entering his prime, not in it — not yet.

Admittedly, this is an obvious goal. Of course Adams will hope to be better than he was last season — what player isn't hoping to improve? However, it's harder for Adams after having such a dominant year in 2018.

This is a tough project for Davante Adams. However, if the stat he improves next season is receiving yards, he could accomplish this one.

With 4,197 receiving yards to this point in his career, he's 16th all-time on the Green Bay Packers' receiving yards list. For what it's worth, Donald Driver tops the list with 10,137.

To move into the top 10 (Billy Howton is 10th with 5,581 yards), Adams would need 1,384 yards. That's  two yards lower than what he had last season.

Adams will be 26 for the majority of next season (he turns 27 on December 24). That means he still has a long way to go in his career. He could definitely challenge Driver for that top spot.

However, that's still a few years away. Right now, Adams needs to take steps toward that pinnacle. A great start would be leapfrogging a few players and settling into the top 10.

Adams is also currently 14th all-time in receiving touchdowns for the Packers with 39. This is a much easier goal when trying to get inside the top 10 however; he needs just four to tie (oddly enough) Billy Howton with 43. The fact that Adams has had double-digit touchdown receptions in each of the last three seasons makes this a small ask.

That said, if Davante Adams can copy his receiving yards production from last season, he'll likely pass Billy Howton in the top 10 for Green Bay Packers all-time receiving yards and touchdown receptions.
