While it's still more than a month away before Stranger Things 4 premieres on Netflix, the hype for its upcoming season is steadily heating up among fans. This, of course, can be clearly seen from the latest trailer and the excitement it generated. But above all the positive reactions coming its way, there are new details that were revealed and could snowball into important developments for the whole story.

We take a deep dive below at the biggest takeaways from Stranger Things' latest trailer and what they could mean for the future of this popular franchise.

War is coming in Stranger Things 4

The ending of Stranger Things 3 wasn't exactly very easy for the gang. Jim Hopper is rotting away in some Russian prison with everyone thinking he's dead, Eleven is off to sunny California with Joyce Byers and her family, and the rest were left in Hawkins.

Over the course of the trailer, fans got to see the cast getting older, specifically the kids everyone fell in love with in season one. But while the excitement over their growth is definitely there, a bigger danger was looming in the background.

As the trailer progressed, a cryptic voice says that war is coming. Various scenes support the notion that a threat deadlier than the past seasons combined is happening here. And with everyone split up in different locations, it's not hard to imagine that they'll be having a more difficult time containing this danger than ever before.

A powerless Eleven

The end of Stranger Things 3 saw Eleven lose her powers, thanks to a piece of the Mind Flayer stuck to her foot. Even after recovering from that battle and relocating with the Byers family, select scenes from the trailer confirm that her psychic and telekinetic abilities haven't returned yet.

In a scene from the Stranger Things 4 trailer, Hawkins Lab's Director Dr. Sam Owens says that they cannot win this war without Eleven on their side. For her part, she reiterates that she's still powerless.

In past seasons, a great part of the gang's success relied heavily on Eleven's abilities and connection to the Upside Down. With those powers gone, it's expected that the stakes will be higher in this season, especially with the coming of a deadlier threat than the Mind Flayer or a Demogorgon.

Into the Upside Down

It can't be denied that the entire Stranger Things 4 trailer released recently was all kinds of awesome. But among the many scenes was one that was almost forgotten – the one where Jonathan and Nancy were talking with the implication that they would go into the Upside Down.

What followed next was a couple of characters on their bikes racing into the dark unknown of the said dimension. While there have been past efforts to explore this place, most notably when Joyce and Hopper rescued Will, there's a pretty big chance some of the cast will go even further.

If done right, this can expand the lore of Stranger Things by giving solid hints, or possibly, a full explanation of what the Upside Down really is. In that potential event, the story could move forward better to the succeeding seasons and until the series itself ends.

The big bad guy reveal

In Stranger Things 1, fans saw the Demogorgon terrorize Hawkins while the following season saw the Mind Flayer unleash a horde of Demodogs. The third season gave this evil a human body in the form of Hawkins' resident bully, Billy Hargrove. The fourth chapter will have a new bad guy, and possibly, an even more dangerous one than the past seasons combined.

During the trailer, an ominous voice kept narrating that war is coming. It stands to reason that the said voice belonged to the creature revealed at the end. With a humanoid body and several tentacles sticking out from his back, the latest Stranger Things trailer ended with a closeup of his eyes opening.

If this is the big bad that's in control of the Upside Down, the story will move faster than it has during seasons one to three. It's also safe to assume that since the threat is bigger this time, there'll be a lot of stakes hanging on the line with this villain looming over the upcoming season.

Fans wouldn't have to wait for long before Netflix shows the first part of Stranger Things 4 at the end of May this year while the second half will come out in July. And with nine episodes surpassing more than an hour each, everyone will surely get their fix of this hit series very soon.
