The Los Angeles Rams won a nail biter against the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI Sunday, 23-20. It was one of the most fascinating Super Bowls in recent memory. The Rams dominated for the first quarter and change, but everything changed when wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. injured his knee.

From that point forward, the Rams offense stalled all game, leaving them trailing 20-16 in the final minutes. But Matthew Stafford showed exactly why they traded Jared Goff and draft picks to acquire him. He led Los Angeles on a 15-play, 79-yard game-winning touchdown drive.

They capped off an amazing season, that featured a lot of adversity, injuries and momentum swings. But in order for the Rams to become the first team since New England in 2003-2004 to repeat as champions, a lot of work needs to be done.

Here are the four things the Rams must do in the 2022 NFL offseason to repeat as Super Bowl champions.

4 Things Rams Must Do This Offseason to Repeat as Champs

4. CONVINCE SEAN MCVAY TO REMAIN AS HEAD COACH

Shortly before the Super Bowl kicked off, there were reports that Rams head coach Sean McVay might walk away from coaching football. It seemed to come out of nowhere.

It was reported that he might take a job in the broadcasting booth. That would follow suit of his former boss, Jon Gruden. Gruden coached the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a Super Bowl championship and then left to broadcast games. He later returned to coaching before being ousted this year for comments he made previously.

I can see the appeal for McVay. He is only 36 years old. He is about to get married and possibly have kids after that. Everyone knows being a head football coach in the NFL is a tireless job. You work 60-80 hours per week, at least. You are rarely ever at home. It's a tough family life to say the least.

McVay could move into the coaching booth for the next decade or so and make a ton more money. Then, if he decided to return to coaching, he would still only be in his mid-to-late 40's.

But if Los Angeles is going to repeat as champions, they cannot allow this to happen. Since he joined the Rams in 2017, Los Angeles has three division titles, two Super Bowl appearances and the one Super Bowl win. His players love him. He is an offensive genius. His presence instills confidence in his players to help lift their games.

Sean McVay needs to be priority number one.

3. DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO GET AARON DONALD TO STOP FROM RETIREMENT

If Sean McVay is priority number one, Aaron Donald is priority 1A.

The same morning of the Super Bowl when talk of McVay walking away arose, the same chatter began on Aaron Donald. Reports surfaced that Donald might retire if the Rams won the Super Bowl. That's been his mission all along, after all.

Donald has done everything else. He has played eight seasons in the NFL, with eight Pro Bowl selections. He is a seven-time All-Pro. He was won Defensive Player of the Year multiple times already. The only thing missing was the ring that he kept pointing to on his finger.

Now he has one. Like McVay, I could see him walking away. He is already considered one of the greatest defensive players to ever lace them up, and finally got a chip. But also like McVay, Donald's presence is crucial if the Rams want to win the Super Bowl next year.

He transforms this defense and when a big play is needed, he seems to always come through. Just ask Joe Burrow.

The good news is that both McVay and Donald have been showing signs they might not hang it up just yet.

2. FIND A WAY TO RE-SIGN VON MILLER

This seems obvious, but that doesn't mean it's not correct. Many people thought that Von Miller was well past his prime and the Rams were not getting close to the same player that won Super Bowl MVP five years prior. Miller put a lot of that talk to rest, as he made a huge difference for the Rams defense.

He recorded two sacks in the Super Bowl victory, and had countless other pressures. But it's not only about what he does individually. Los Angeles would place Miller and Donald on the same side of the ball for a lot of snaps. That makes it really difficult to double Donald every play. If you do, you leave Miller singled up on the outside.

He made just over $19 million in 2021. There have already been rumors that Miller is planning on exploring the free agency market. But Los Angeles would be wise to find a way to fit him under the cap and bring him back to the Rams next season.

1. GET LUCKY WITH INJURIES

One of the biggest reasons the NFL has not seen a repeat champion in almost 20 years is because of injuries. They are a big part of the game.

Tom Brady and the New England Patriots were the last team to go back-to-back in 2003-2004. Many thought he might pull it off this year. After all, it's Tom Brady and that amazing Buccaneers roster. But unlike 2020 when Tampa Bay was incredibly healthy down the stretch, 2021 was the opposite.

They lost Pro Bowl wide receiver Chris Godwin to a torn ACL late in the season. Leonard Fournette missed a few games and was not 100 percent healthy in the playoffs. Their defense had guys in and out of the lineup all season. It happens.

If the Rams are going to win Super Bowl LVII, health will play a big part of it.
