San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle DeForest Buckner claims nobody can block him.

This was what Buckner told NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco on June 10.

I can't be blocked. I approach that every day. That's my mindset going in every day for practice. That's how I approach every game. I want to be the best at my position.

That is a bold claim from DeBuckner. He finished tied with the New Orleans Saints' Cameron Jordan and the Denver Broncos' Bradley Chubb for 14th in the NFL last season in sacks with 12.0. That's also “the fourth-most by a 49ers defender since 2000,” per NBC Sports Bay Area's Jennifer Lee Chan.

Buckner had only three sacks in the 2017 NFL season. He told Chan in January he credits his increased sack total to “finishing” and “finding that extra step to get to the quarterback.” Buckner could've had more sacks had he not let some quarterbacks get out his grasp.

Buckner is entering the final year of the four-year rookie deal he signed in 2016. He has a fifth-year option since San Francisco drafted him in the first round four years ago, per Niners Wire's Kyle Madson.

Buckner told Maiocco (via Madson) he sees himself staying with the 49ers over the long haul. He said he and his teammates are all in on general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan's long-term vision.

Madson foresees Buckner landing a lucrative extension “somewhere between” the deals of Khalil Mack ($141 million) and Aaron Donald ($135 million). If Buckner makes good on his claim of being unblockable next season and beyond, it shouldn't be a far-fetched possibility.
