All signs point to the San Francisco 49ers moving on from quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo this offseason, with Trey Lance waiting in the wings to take over as the long-term starter. 49ers legend Joe Montana isn't a fan of this strategy because he doesn't think Lance is “ready” just yet.

49ers star tight end George Kittle weighed in on the topic to TMZ, and while he praised Jimmy G, he disagrees with Montana's assessment about Lance. The tight end thinks the young quarterback is ready to roll and plans to be as productive as ever no matter who's throwing him the ball:

Garoppolo helped San Francisco get back to the NFC Championship Game this season, though he struggled throughout the playoffs as he battled with injuries and ultimately fell short against the Los Angeles Rams, who went on to win the Super Bowl. Jimmy G has been a solid quarterback for the 49ers, advancing to a Super Bowl three seasons ago, but his shortcomings cost his team in that game against the Kansas City Chiefs and held them back again at times this past season.

Lance did get in a few reps in 2021 and showed flashes of his promise, but it will be asking a lot of the young quarterback to come in and be ready to flourish with a team that's otherwise ready to win the Super Bowl. Still, this is definitely the right move to make. San Francisco traded a ton to get Lance, and it's time to see what he's made of after going through this Jimmy G song and dance. While Garoppolo is fine, you know what you're going to get with him at this point, and it's time to aim higher.
