San Francisco 49ers starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to be sidelined indefinitely with a high ankle sprain, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. Tight end George Kittle has a small fracture in his foot, too, and will miss extended time, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Garoppolo is expected to be sidelined a minimum of six weeks and possibly longer if surgery is needed. Kittle is out eight weeks with a broken bone in his foot, which means his season could be over.

Jimmy Garoppolo and George Kittle both suffered their injuries in Week 8 against the Seattle Seahawks. The 49ers lost to Seattle by a final score of 37-27. San Francisco is now 4-4 on the season. They are in last place in the NFC West standings.

In six starts this season, Garoppolo has thrown for 1,096 yards and seven touchdowns while completing 67.1 percent of his passes. He has five interceptions as well.

As for Kittle, who is one of the best tight ends in the NFL, he's caught 37 balls on the season for 474 yards and two touchdowns. The 49ers, who were already facing steep odds to make the playoffs in the NFC, are certainly bummed about these two injuries.

The 49ers face the Green Bay Packers in Week 9. The game is on Thursday Night Football, meaning it's a short week for both the Niners and Packers. Green Bay lost to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 8 at home in what was a shocking result, to say the least.

The 49ers went to the Super Bowl last season, losing to the Kansas City Chiefs. As has been the case for a lot of the teams who lose the Super Bowl, the Niners have had the Super Bowl-loss hangover this season.
