Former Washington Redskins offensive tackle Trent Williams is now officially a member of the San Francisco 49ers. With 49ers general manager John Lynch going out and getting the disgruntled Williams from Washington, San Francisco now believes the situation surrounding the former Redskins staple and his expiring contract will all work itself out moving forward.

“I think the plan was to land him right now and then let the rest kind of work itself out,” Lynch recently told Nick Wagoner of ESPN. “I think it’s always an advantage when you get someone in the building, on your roster. Now you’ve got a chance. We’ll get a really good look at him. We’ll see where the rest of our team is at, but right now we are just ecstatic that we were able to pull it off at a really opportune time.”

Although Williams will become a tremendous addition to the San Francisco roster, the 49ers unfortunately lost another veteran offensive tackle in Joe Staley, who retired from the NFL right before the start of the 2020 NFL Draft. With the departure of Staley paving the way for Williams to step right into the mix for Lynch and company in San Francisco, it appears as though both sides will surely benefit from this situation.

Of course, the 49ers are only looking to improve — if that is even possible — as San Francisco is fresh off of a NFC title and an appearance in Super Bowl LIV from a season ago.
