Investigations by both the NFL and local law enforcement are well underway as they look to get to the bottom of the incident surrounding San Francisco 49ers linebacker Reuben Foster. Foster was arrested earlier in the week on charges of domestic violence and possession of an assault rifle.

According to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area, Foster has been in close contact with the team and is “cooperating fully” with the different investigations.

Foster talked multiple times on the phone and in person on Monday with 49ers general manager John Lynch and coach Kyle Shanahan, according to a source. He is also said to be cooperating fully with the investigation – both at local law enforcement and NFL levels.

At this point, cooperating fully with police and the NFL is the very least Foster can do. The very fact that he is in this situation – being investigated for some very serious offenses like domestic abuse – is already a major black mark against him.

Foster has now been involved in way too many concerning incidents during his relatively short time in the league, and the 49ers are likely seriously considering his future with the team. While the investigations still need to play out, it’s hard to imagine the NFL not hitting Foster with a suspension given the details which have already come out coupled with the precedent they’ve set with Ezekiel Elliott last year.

Whatever actions the police and the NFL make based on their investigations, Foster will have no choice but to live with the consequences of his actions.
