All things considered, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan had a massively successful season last year. He led his team to the Super Bowl, their first appearance on the big stage since 2013.

But apparently, 49ers legend Ronnie Lott has much loftier aspirations for coach Kyle. He believes that Shanahan might be the second coming of Bill Walsh.

This praise coming from Lott is as high as it gets. Legendary 49ers head coach Bill Walsh led their squad to three Super Bowl victories during his decade-long run with San Francisco in the eighties. During that stretch, they also won the division six times, with a final playoff record of 10-4 to end his career.

For Shanahan to be in that same conversation for one of Walsh's former stars is certainly a great sign for the San Francisco faithful.

Here's what Lott had to say about Shanahan and the 49ers, as reported on Pro Football Talk:

“To me, they’re there,” Lott said. “They’re there on the offense and the reason I think that they’re there on the offense is that, and I’ve said this is, Kyle is our version of Bill Walsh. I think he’s one of the most innovative guys in pro football when it comes to offense.”

Lott believes that despite the challenge presented by a strong NFC West division that includes the Seattle Seahawks, Los Angeles Rams, and the Arizona Cardinals, Shanahan has the 49ers ready to compete with anybody.

But of course, there's a major requirement for Shanahan to have a run like Bill Walsh.

Win a ring first, then we'll talk.
