Forbidden Door has promised a ton of outstanding moments, and it definitely hasn’t disappointed. Former WWE superstar Cesaro made his AEW debut as Bryan Danielson’s replacement against Zack Sabre Jr.

Danielson missed the match due to injuries, and will also miss AEW’s Blood and Guts edition of Dynamite on Wednesday. Cesaro will also take Danielson’s place in the Blood and Guts match against the Jericho Appreciation Society.

Cesaro, now wrestling under the name Claudio Castagnoli, is the newest member of the Blackpool Combat Club faction led by William Regal. He joins Danielson, Jon Moxley, and ROH Pure champion Wheeler Yuta.

The 41-year-old Castagnoli left WWE back in February when his contract expired. This is his first appearance in wrestling since losing to Happy Corbin on the February 11th episode of Smackdown.

Castagnoli is a one-time WWE United States Champion. Along with Sheamus, he won the RAW Tag Team Championship four times. The Bar, as they were called, also claimed the Smackdown Tag Team Championship on one occasion.

The 41-year-old also wrestled in Ring of Honor for a time. He and Chris Hero won the ROH World Tag Team Championship twice. He left Ring of Honor in 2011.

Castagnoli had a few runs near the main event scene in WWE. He went toe to toe with WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at WrestleMania Backlash in a losing effort. His final feud in WWE was against his former tag team partner, Sheamus.

Castagnoli wound up defeating Sabre Jr, in his first match as an official All Elite Wrestling roster member.
