Angels-Giants Projected Starters

Last Start: 6.0 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 3 K's

2024 Road Splits: 39.2 IP, 3-3, 2.27 ERA

After accounting for a 26-42 overall record through the team's first 58 games of the season, the Angels have found themselves in the thick of things. With a 2-4 mark in their last six games, it is LA that already sits near the basement of the AL West standings and are currently trailing the Seattle Mariners by 12.5 games for first place, Clearly, the ‘Halos have their work cut out for them and beginning this series by putting this contest in the win column will prove to be a main priority for this ball club.

Hovering around the .500 mark for most of the season, the up-and-down San Francisco Giants have at least compiled a 5-2 record in the past week or so of action. Furthermore, the Giants will also be playing in front of the home fans as they are 19-15 in games taking place at Oracle Park in the heart of San Francisco Bay. Despite already being behind the NL West leaders in the Los Angeles Dodgers by 7.5 games, it will be up to San Fran to take it one game at a time in an attempt to get back in the division race.

Why The Angels Will Cover The Spread/Win

For starters, the Angels will need to put their best foot forward if they plan on taking care of business in impressive fashion. Simply put, it hasn't been pretty for the 2024 Angels up to this point, as the team located in Anaheim as been given a bad hand in terms of some tough fortune in the injury department. Not to mention, but poor play in a multitude of facets on the field has haunted LA all year long.

Luckily, the ‘Halos will be trotting out one of their more productive arms on the starting staff in lefty Tyler Anderson. In fact, it has been the southpaw who has racked up a dazzling 2.63 ERA over the course of the season. Many believe that Anderson is due to experience some sort of regression from the mound thanks to his low strikeout rate and a high clip of walks, but that may not occur later this evening against a Giants offense that possesses middle-of-the-pack numbers from a hitting standpoint. Indeed, it may be up to Mr. Anderson to save the day and this game for the Angels.

Why The Giants Will Cover The Spread/Win

On the other side of things, it appears that San Francisco may be trending in a positive direction after all. Of course, with so much of the regular season remaining to be played, the Giants have plenty of time to start stringing together some victories and make a stellar push at a postseason spot in the National League.

First things first, the best chance that the Giants have at covering the spread and ultimately prevailing over the American League Angels in front of the home crowd will come in the form of using past history to their advantage. Over the course of the past ten games played versus Los Angeles, it has been San Francisco that has been victorious in seven of those meetings. While it remains to be seen who will be taking the mound first for the Giants, San Fran should be able to take a sigh of relief on whoever that ends up being. At the moment, San Francisco's starting pitching has tallied 24 quality starts up to this point even though their combined 4.34 as a team is higher than what they would like from their arms.

If all else fails, be on the lookout for right-fielder Austin Slater to continue to rake at the plate. Despite slashing only .212 on the season, Slater is in the midst of a four-game hitting streak including punching a trio of base hits in the team's recent 5-3 victory over the Houston Astros.

Final Angels-Giants Prediction & Pick

Anything goes during inter-league action. At the end of the day, it is hard to put faith in this Angels squad no matter who gets the start from the pitching rubber. Side with the Giants at their home ballpark in this one.
