As Arsenal prepares to face Southampton on Saturday, they will be missing team captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has left the striker out of the squad due to a “disciplinary breach”.

Via Sky Sports:

“I think we have been very consistent that we have certain non-negotiables in the team that we have set ourselves as a club, and he's not involved today.”

The Arsenal manager added: “It's not an easy situation and not a situation we want to have our club captain in.

Undoubtedly, this has to do with Aubameyang's dreadful for in front of goal for Arsenal. The 32-year-old came on as a late substitute against Everton last weekend and failed to score once again. He's now gone six straight games without a Premier League goal.

Auba has netted just four times in 14 appearances this term for the Gunners, who currently sit in seventh spot in the table. Arteta did admit that Aubameyang's struggles have played a part in leaving him off the squad:

“It's all about patches and moments and when you are in good form and hitting the goals then trying to maintain it as long as possible while also trying to reduce the time when they aren't in good form.”

Arsenal is in desperate need of the full three points after suffering two consecutive league defeats to Manchester United and Everton. Hopefully, this time to regroup for Aubameyang can help him break out of his struggles in the final third.
