The Houston Astros snagged a new recruit from the free-agent market in veteran pitcher Jake Odorizzi ahead of the 2021 MLB season. The two sides reportedly agreed to a two-year deal that is set to have a player option, via ESPN‘s Jeff Passan.

Though the full figures aren't known yet, MLB Network‘s Jon Heyman revealed that Odorizzi has a chance to make $30 million in two years with the Astros based on incentives. There will also be a buyout to be included on his third-year player option.

Odorizzi previously had a career year with the Minnesota Twins back in the 2019 season where he earned his lone All-Star appearance. However, he wasn't able to build on his stellar campaign as multiple injuries slowed him down in the 2020 season.

The Illinois native only managed to have four starts where he went 0-1 with a 6.59 ERA in 13.2 innings played along with 12 strikeouts. Even without his services for the most part of the season, the Twins still successfully snagged the top spot in the AL Central with a 36-24 record.

Despite entering the postseason as the third seed in the American League, the Minny-based squad was still dealt with a 2-0 upset loss by the sixth-seeded Astros in the opening round.

After Odorizzi's previous one-year contract has already expired, he will now be crossing the fence to join his former team's tormentors in Houston. The 30-year-old veteran will be joining the likes of catcher Jason Castro, pitcher Pedro Baez, and the returning outfielder in Michael Brantley as the team's new signings heading to next season.

If he manages to be healthy and find his All-Star form, Jake Odorizzi has an opportunity to serve as a huge asset for manager Dusty Baker as the Astros aim to improve from a 29-31 record from last season.
