Justin Verlander is aging like a fine wine. At 39 years old, the Houston Astros veteran pitcher is still putting together an elite season, even capping the first half of the 2022 MLB campaign with an on-brand sterling performance that baseball fans have become so used to seeing from the two-time Cy Young award winner.

Verlander made his last start before the 2022 MLB All-Star break and absolutely tamed the Oakland A's in a 5-0 victory Saturday, as he pitched six scoreless innings, allowing just six hits while fanning 10 Athletics batters in the process.

Amid his torrid start to the 2022 season, Verlander has made MLB history with his utter dominance across various pitching categories. Take a look at just how surreal the 39-year-old was in his first half of the season, courtesy of Stats By STATS.

What a way for Justin Verlander to enter the Midsummer Classic. The Astros star will also be seeing action in the 2022 MLB All-Star Game, which will be the ninth appearance of his legendary career. After silencing the Athletics' offense, Justin Verlander improves his record this 2022 MLB season to 12-3 and lowers his ERA to 1.89 to go with a 0.88 WHIP.

Following his latest excellent mound appearance, Justin Verlander tried to put his success into perspective while factoring in the challenges he had to deal with in the past.

Via ESPN:

“I've said the word perspective here a lot, and I don't take it for granted,” he said. “I think in the past I took a lot of things for granted, my health and some success when I was young, certainly not since I've been an Astro. But I think age and going through some stuff, has a way to help you grow up and realize some real positives that maybe you wouldn't have taken a moment to realize before.”

Verlander is proving that his injury history and his age haven't slowed him down one bit. Perhaps the lack of innings he's thrown over the past couple of seasons made him fresher than ever in his age-37 campaign.
