After a summer full of speculation, Saul Niguez is set to leave Atletico Madrid after nine seasons at the club. And according to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea is leading the race to sign the talented Spanish midfielder:

As Romano noted, Manchester United is also eyeing the 26-year-old, who is poised for a Premier League move. Both clubs would undoubtedly love to add a player of Saul Niguez's caliber, but this isn't exactly a position that either of them needs reinforcements.

Chelsea has two top-notch central midfielders in Jorginho and N'Golo Kante who are the absolute definition of box-to-box players. Saul is a similar type of player. Plus, the Blues are also still considering the possibility of signing Sevilla center-back Jules Kounde. It seems unlikely they would be able to sign both La Liga standouts considering Chelsea already splashed the cash on Romelu Lukaku.

For United, Saul Niguez could make a little bit more sense but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is likely content with his options. He typically plays as a deep-lying midfielder and the Red Devils currently have two veterans in Nemanja Matic and Fred playing in that role.

Nevertheless, it seems like one of these English giants will make a move for Saul Niguez, who just won the La Liga title last season with Atletico. Liverpool also made a bid for him earlier in the summer, but it was rejected by Madrid. With the transfer window coming to a close, expect a deal to materialize rather quickly.
