Khalil Mack has been the early Defensive Player of the Year this season and has helped transform the Chicago Bears into what appears to be an NFC contender. Unfortunately, the Bears came out of their bye week to a 31-28 overtime loss against the Miami Dolphins. Chicago also saw Mack suffer an ankle injury, although he did play through it.

According to a report from Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Mack suffered an ankle injury that many players would not have tried to play through, but he gutted it out to play for his team.

There have been no reports about whether the injury could force Mack to miss the Bears' Week 7 matchup with the New England Patriots at Soldier Field. Chicago will certainly need Mack next week if he's able to play.

So far this season, the Bears have received massive production from Mack. He has racked up 19 total tackles to go along with five sacks, four forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, an interception, a defensive touchdown, and two defended passes. Those numbers have helped lead the Bears' defense to being a legitimate force to be reckoned with.

Mack is one of the most explosive defenders in the game. An ankle injury could very well be the kind of thing that forces him to sit out some time.

Chicago would have to rely on Leonard Floyd and Roquan Smith to put pressure on Tom Brady if Mack can't play. If he can, the Bears may have a chance to make another bold statement to the NFL with a big win.

Expect to hear more information on Mack's ankle injury as the week progresses. Hopefully, the Bears will have their superstar on the field next week.
