It had been reported that the Bears organization had mandated that head coach Matt Nagy must start Justin Fields for the rest of the season. However, Nagy responded to that take, raising questions about what really happened.

According to Chicago Sun Times Bears beat writer Jason Lieser, that report is not accurate.

It was believed that prior to their Week 5 matchup vs the Las Vegas Raiders, Bears chairman George McKaskey instructed Nagy to start Justin Fields.

Chicago had brought in veteran and 3-time Pro Bowl quarterback Andy Dalton to run the offense and give Justin Fields some time to learn. It's well known that Nagy wanted this to be the case. But an injury to Dalton in Week 2 forced his hand.

Fields did not look ready but has shown improvement throughout the season.

The Bears drafted Justin Fields at #11 overall in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He, along with four other quarterbacks were chosen in the first 15 picks in the NFL. That's the first time in NFL history that has happened. The writing on the wall is clear, you either have a franchise quarterback or you don't.

Nagy was thought to be canned after their Thanksgiving Day game against the Lions. That does not appear to be the case. Speaking to reporters Friday, Nagy dismissed those reports and said that Fields is the starting quarterback when he is healthy.

Currently, Fields is dealing with cracked ribs and is going to miss more time. In his absence, Dalton played well on Thanksgiving, leading the Bears to comeback victory.
