The Chicago Bears will need to pull off a spectacular NFL offseason if they are to fulfill the playoff guarantees of running back Jordan Howard. However, they will first need to decide on how to approach the situation regarding cornerback Kyle Fuller.

Fuller is projected to have some suitors should he hit the market as a free agent. As a result, the Bears could be looking to use their franchise tag on him, according to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune:

I certainly think there is a good chance the franchise tag or transition tag is in play for Fuller before the March 6 deadline, and it’s possible Pace sheds a little light on that possibility later this week from the scouting combine.

Locking up Fuller while they still can certainly makes sense. However, it remains to be seen what they would choose to do with him in terms of a potential trade. The former 14th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft was reportedly looking forward to testing the market as a free agent following a bounce-back year in 2017.

Chicago had declined his fifth-year option after Fuller was sidelined for the entire 2016 NFL season with a knee injury. However, his prospects are looking up after registering 68 tackles, 22 pass deflections, and two interceptions last year.

That said, it seems the Bears could be looking to get something in return for the promising corner. There is little doubt general manager Ryan Pace, and Fuller's agent will come to agreements on a long-term contract by the March deadline. Meanwhile, a franchise tag is expected to cost nearly $15 million for the 2018 NFL season.
