The Chicago Bears had to postpone their regular morning practice to the afternoon as the team initially had nine individuals who tested positive for the coronavirus. However, the said results were confirmed to be false-positive tests only.

The team has released a statement regarding the matter via The Athletic's Adam Jahns on Twitter:

In addition to the Bears' situation, Saturday's daily coronavirus testing returned several positive tests from each of the teams being serviced by the same laboratory in New Jersey. The league has also coordinated with BioReference to investigate the matter.

With training camp proceedings gradually ramping up, NFL teams continue to observe safety protocols and social distancing measures within their facilities. Annual preseason games that were supposed to be part of the build-up for the season were also canceled in lieu of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Teams can only utilize team practices and mock games to run schemes, get reps in, and determine who will make the final 53-man roster by September 5. The opening game will be slated on September 10 starring the defending Super Bowl LIV champion Kansas City Chiefs against the Houston Texans. The remaining NFL teams will start Week 1 action on either September 13 or 14.

The Chicago Bears are still continuing with their rebuilding efforts to improve from their 8-8 record last season. The team finished in third place in the NFC North division, trailing behind group leader Green Bay Packers and runner-up Minnesota Vikings.

The team is raring to make it back to the playoff picture for the first time since losing to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Wild Card round in 2018. The first challenge they will be facing for the upcoming season will be the Detroit Lions on September 13 at Ford Field.
