It's no secret that San Francisco 49ers kicker Robbie Gould wants to return to his old stomping grounds in Chicago, and with Gould playing out the 2019 campaign on a franchise tag, it seems likely that he will sign back with the Bears next offseason.

However, former Chicago kicker Kevin Butler isn't sure if Gould returning to Chicago is such a good idea, as it is called the Windy City for a reason.

“I’ve always said it to Robbie, be careful what you wish for sometimes, because it’s not easy to kick in Chicago,” Butler said, according to Jeff Dickerson of ESPN.com. “It’s certainly not easy to kick in San Francisco, but he’s found a situation out there where he’s been as good as there is. Can you duplicate that by coming back to Chicago? I don’t know. … It’s a scary thing to mess with your legacy.”

The thing is, Gould spent the first 11 years of his career kicking for the Bears, making a Pro Bowl while also earning a First-Team All-Pro selection in the process. So, if anyone would know how to make field goals in the nasty Chicago elements, it's Gould.

But, still, Butler is cautioning Gould that it might not be like it once was.

“The obvious question is why don’t the Bears try and bring Robbie back,” Butler said. “Well, Robbie had tremendous success, better than any kicker in Chicago, and he’s gone on and done it even better after he left the Bears. If you’re looking for the rah-rah, team-team thing, remember, they’ll cut your (expletive) just as quick as anything in the NFL.”

Butler kicked for the Bears from 1985 through 1995 before spending the final two years of his career with the Arizona Cardinals.
