The Chicago Bears are early in training camp and there isn't much of an update on the competition between Mitch Trubisky and Nick Foles. As the Bears prepare for the upcoming season, Matt Nagy commented on the current status of Chicago's quarterback battle between Trubisky and Foles.

“We really look right now for the decision making,” Nagy said. “We're trying to test some things in regards to where those guys are at. I thought the decisions were good.”

With COVID-19 causing the NFL to cancel the preseason, Nagy understands the importance of every rep in training camp. Given that, Nagy wants to ramp up the reps each quarterback gets before the 2020 season arrives.

“There's limited reps, limited time, so we're going to maximize those numbers that we have and literally take it as far as we need to go,” Nagy said. “Both of these guys have experience in this game and I think that's only what's fair.”

Both Foles and Trubisky have starting experience in the NFL, making it an even playing field in that aspect of the competition. However, seeing that the Bears traded for him, Foles is expected to have the advantage over Trubisky to begin training camp.

When teams have quarterback battles, the guys competing may choose to keep to themselves during the offseason. On the contrary, Nagy said that Trubisky and Foles have had positive communication as they compete for the No. 1 spot on the depth chart.

“Those guys when they watch tape, they're genuinely helping each other out, they're supporting each other, and you feel that,” Nagy said. “It makes life so much easier for them when they're in the huddle trying to play the best that they can.”

The Bears are set to kick off the 2020 season in Week 1 versus the Detroit Lions. While it's still to be determined who will be the starter, Nagy appears to be content with Trubisky and Foles' progress thus far.
