The Chicago Bears have spent much of the NFL offseason shifting their roster around by adding several more pieces to the puzzle while bringing in a new coaching staff ahead of the 2018 campaign.

A part of that change has been a larger veteran presence that saw them sign players in free agency like tight end Trey Burton, who has voiced that he sees many similarities to the championship team he was a part of with the Philadelphia Eagles, according to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.

“There are a ton of similarities,” Burton said. “You look at Philly two years ago, the majority of our games we lost by less than a touchdown. If you look at Chicago last year as well, there’s a good amount of games that they lost. It’s just getting over that hump. You gotta be able to win the close games and here’s so many small detail things that happen in order for you to lose those games.”

Although there was plenty of room for growth this past season for the Bears, the team did come off a campaign where they lost six games by eight points or fewer. The team is getting closer to be highly competitive, which is something that the front office is likely hoping the additions that they made both through free agency and draft could push them to break through in 2018.

Much of this will hinge on second-year quarterback Mitchell Trubisky to make significant progress in his development in the offense under new head coach Matt Nagy. This could provide a much-needed level of steadiness to the offense alongside their promising backfield duo of Pro Bowl running back Jordan Howard and second-year tailback Tarik Cohen.

The front office has also brought in more talent defensively that could see them finally make that jump to being a true contender in the NFC. The pieces could be in place for Chicago to be one of the franchises on the rise next season.
