Tensions appear to be running high throughout the Chicago Bears organization after another 8-8 season and an NFC Wild Card Game loss to the New Orleans Saints.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported the franchise is “on edge” with respect to the statuses of head coach Matt Nagy and general manager Ryan Pace.

Garafolo also added the fact the Bears have yet to hold a postseason press conference has only increased speculation something could be afoot in the Windy City.

This is a rather sharp pivot from previous reporting, which suggested both Nagy and Pace would be around in 2021.

Indeed, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported earlier this month Nagy was “expected to return” as head coach next season.

But the silence has become deafening. Are the Bears about to undergo a significant overhaul in the front office?

Nagy was hired as Chicago's head coach ahead of the 2018 season. The Bears went 12-4 with him at the helm, as quarterback Mitchell Trubisky made strides in his sophomore season and the defense dominated. But Trubisky has regressed since and Nagy has been criticized for his offensive play-calling, even giving up those duties at one point.

Pace came on as general manager in 2015. He was the guy who drafted infamously drafted Trubisky over Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson and has also whiffed on other offensive draft picks. Plus, the Bears have been unable to extend star receiver Allen Robinson

However, Pace has had more success on the defensive end. He traded for Khalil Mack while also drafting talents like Roquan Smith and Jaylon Johnson.

It remains to be seen how the Bears will proceed. But there is a certain uneasiness that could point to significant change at Halas Hall.
