The Cincinnati Bengals are set to take on the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship. Before the Sunday afternoon matchup, quarterback Joe Burrow was named the “Comeback Player of the Year.”

The Bengals tweeted the news Friday afternoon.

This honor, given out by the Pro Football Writers of America, was given to Burrow for his huge comeback from last season's career halting injury. Burrow suffered an ACL tear when he was taken down in Week 11 his rookie year. He had surgery to repair the left knee injury and was ready to go for the 2021 season.

The high praise is certainly warranted for the young star. The 25-year-old has already broken multiple franchise records, including the most passing yards and the most passing touchdowns in a single season. He finished the regular season with 4,611 yards and 34 touchdowns, breaking both records previously held by Andy Dalton.

In his second year in the league, Burrow led his team to a historical playoff run. They defeated the Las Vegas Raiders in Wild Card Weekend and the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Divisional Round. The only thing in the way of a Bengals Super Bowl appearance is the Chiefs and their AFC Championship Game.

If Burrow can lead his team to an AFC Championship victory on Sunday, the Bengals will play in the Super Bowl for the third time in franchise history. If they can win the big game, it will be the first Super Bowl win in franchise history.
