After PSA decided to halt its services last March, it’s now BGS' turn to do the same. With their backlog of submissions getting the better out of this company, collectors are left with one option less for their grading needs.

Just this week, BGS announced that they are temporarily suspending all but one of their grading services. Jeromy Murray, Beckett Collectibles President, said that after June 7, they will only accept cards submitted via their Premium Level service. He added that the cards they received through the Express, Standard, and Economy level will be sent back to their customers ungraded.

BGS’ high-end Premium Level grading service costs $250 for each card submitted. Customers can choose to do away with the sub-grades when opting for this service, which would then lower the rate to $150.

Murray stated that the company is going through this decision to clear its massive backlog before the 2021 National Sports Collection Convention. They aim to get a lot of graded cards sent back to their customers before said event. Murray added that this is not ideal for their customers, but it has already been done by the competition.

At the end of March, PSA made the first move of this kind by suspending most of its services to reduce the number of submitted cards. Just recently, the company announced that they have entered all submissions into their database, a move that will speed up their grading process.

While this development may hurt card fans in the short term, BGS' suspension will help them provide a better service down the line. Like PSA, this grading company will come back better and stronger after this suspension.
