The Buffalo Bills are reportedly interested in adding to a staunch defensive unit that ranked sixth in DVOA last season, according to Football Outsiders.

Buffalo will pursue free-agent linebacker Christian Kirksey, who is free to sign with any team after he was cut by the Cleveland Browns on Wednesday (per Ryan Talbot of NYUP):

The Buffalo Bills have already addressed cornerback depth ahead of free agency by signing Josh Norman. The team could be looking into doing the same thing at the linebacker position.

A source told NYUP that the Bills are interested in former Cleveland Browns linebacker Christian Kirksey.

Kirksey has not been able to stay healthy in recent years, playing just nine combined games over the course of the last two seasons. He suffered a torn pectoral tendon last October, which effectively ended his 2019 campaign.

Nevertheless, Kirksey is expected to generate interest. Dan Graziano of ESPN reported Kirksey is expected to four or five visits, beginning with the Las Vegas Raiders:

Talbot reported it remains unknown whether the Bills are among the teams expected to visit with Kirksey.

Although the 27-year-old has had a hard time staying healthy, he has been quite productive when on the gridiron. Kirksey had 148 combined tackles in 2016 and 138 tackles in 2017, and he also showcased an ability to disrupt the passing game.

The Bills appear intent on solidifying their defensive depth by adding veteran players on cheap deals. Buffalo went 10-6 last year thanks mostly in part to allowing the second-fewest points per game, and they want to maintain the theme of stinginess in 2020.
