Portland Trail Blazers center Enes Kanter has made his way around the league over the years, though it appears he might be the most comfortable in the Pacific Northwest. Actually in the midst of his second stint as a member of Rip City, Kanter most notably hauled in a whopping 30 rebounds a few days back as Portland remains one of the better teams in the always competitive Western Conference.

There is more to Kanter than just basketball, though, as the Blazers big man is also a devout Muslim. As a result, Kanter began fasting on Monday, something that will occur every single day of Ramadan.

“Whenever the Ramadan time comes, it gives me so much mental strength, and it’s like my superpowers come back,” Kanter said of the religious practice, via NBC Sports Northwest.

It is something that Enes Kanter has done since he was 8 years old. According to the NBC report, he typically begins his day around 4:00 a.m. while immediately eating a meal. However, he will then fast for approximately 16 hours–going without both food and water for the rest of the day. Even so, Kanter plays during this entire period and even believes that sometimes he plays better when fasting.

“It just feels amazing out there because I know that I’m doing something that I’m supposed to do, but at the same time, I’m playing basketball,” the Blazers center added.

As it stands today, Kanter and the surging Blazers sit in sixth place in the Western Conference standings, just behind the defending NBA champions Los Angeles Lakers.
