Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is coming in as the biggest draw this year but his team has got its eyes only on the best competition there is.

Many are convinced that Canelo Alvarez has already beaten all the best fighters at middleweight. Hence, after ending the past year with a bang, it appears that Canelo is already planning to dominate the light heavyweight division while also eyeing another move up to cruiserweight.

Before the 2021 ended, Canelo's longtime trainer Eddy Reynoso dropped a major hint at their plans. Contrary to what many are expecting, Reynoso revealed that they have not written off the middleweight division. In fact, they have even reckoned that WBC middleweight Jermall Charlo and IBO and IBF middleweight champion Gennadiy Golovkin are the “best opponents” at the moment.

“As champions we have to look for the best opponents, fighters with titles, who generate expectations. We want to fight [Jermall] Charlo, and there is also [Gennadiy] Golovkin,” Reynoso said via Boxing Scene.

Canelo's promoter Eddie Hearn, on the other hand, wants the Mexican superstar to continue where he left off at the light heavyweight division.

“I know there’s talk of the cruiserweight fight. I just think that he [Canelo] should do exactly the same as he did at 168 at 175,” Hearn explained when discussing his desire for Alvarez to face the current light heavyweight champions this year.

“He should fight [Dmitry] Bivol, Joe Smith [Jr.] and [Artur] Beterbiev, and I think he can do it all in a year AGAIN,” he added.
