A legendary football figure will be a guest speaker for the Philadelphia Eagles to help prepare the team for Sunday’s Super Bowl LII showdown with the New England Patriots. That would be former Green Bay Packers quarterback and Hall of Famer Brett Favre, who was invited by Eagles head coach Doug Pederson to give Philadelphia further motivation to accomplish the tall task ahead of them.

Via Gil Brandt of NFL.com:

As stated by Brandt, Pederson and Brett Favre were teammates for a long time with the Packers. Pederson served as Green Bay’s backup quarterback to Favre in two separate stints in Green Bay. Pederson first played for the Packers from 1995-1998. He would play for the Eagles and the Cleveland Browns after that before returning in 2001 to Green Bay, where he would conclude his playing career in 2004.

In a recently published piece by MMQB, Favre spoke highly of his lasting friendship with Pederson.

“You called me today and asked me about Doug, and I'm going to tell you I'm not blowing smoke. If Doug was working at the cement plant in Monroe [La.] right now and not getting ready to coach his team in the Super Bowl, I'd tell you the exact same thing: He was incredibly valuable and important to my career. Doug and I were together, whatever, 10 years?

Not long enough if you ask me. The only bad thing for me was we weren't together 20 years. I always though Don Strock and Dan Marino were like a match made in heaven. That's the way it was with me and Doug.

Together, Pederson and Favre won a Super Bowl in 1997, when the Packers defeated the – you guessed it – New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXI, 35-21.

Almost 20 years later, the two are teaming up again to help a different team take down New England.
