The Milwaukee Brewers bolstered their lineup on Monday by signing former National League MVP Andrew McCutchen to a one-year contract. Milwaukee has had a relatively quiet offseason but this move helps to sure up their offense which lacked last season. It should also help to alleviate some of the pressure for Christian Yelich, as he will have some help surrounding him in the batting order.

McCutchen brings a wealth of experience to Milwaukee. The outfielder has spent 13 years in the big leagues, and has made five all-star teams to go along with an MVP award back in 2013. Although he is not the same player as he was back then, McCutchen is still a formidable presence in any lineup. The veteran clubbed 27 home runs in Philadelphia last season, and he also offers respectable defense from either of the corner outfield spots.

The Brewers can use all of the offensive help they can get as well. Despite their strong 2021 season overall, they finished the year ranked 27th in team batting average and 23rd in slugging percentage. Milwaukee has the potential to go from a playoff contender to World Series favorite if they can add just a couple of more bats to the lineup to compliment their elite pitching rotation.

McCutchen is also extremely familiar with the National League Central, as he spent the first portion of his career in Pittsburgh with the Pirates.

This signing will not be a top headline by any means, but it could end up being a very underrated move for Milwaukee in the long run.
